The construction industry is facing some significant workforce challenges:
- A projected shortage of 1600 workers between now and the year 2014 in the Capital Area.
- An aging work force with few younger workers entering the industry.
- Recruitment made difficult by a less than positive industry image.
- Employment opportunities are tough to access because of the splintered nature of the industry.
- Stiff competition between different industries to attract the best and brightest.
The Capital Area Construction Council was formed to address these workforce challenges and to represent the entire construction industry in collaboration with area educators.
